Easing the Way: VA Care and Benefits at End-of-Life and Beyond

For many people, the decisions and procedures relating to health care at the end of life are shrouded in mystery and confusion. Equally challenging is the complicated maze of requirements we must navigate after the death of a loved one. The emotional and mental challenges of grief make it even harder to figure out what we need to know and do. Anything that can be done or learned in advance can reduce some of the distress.

This is why the Roseburg VA Health Care System, the Roseburg National Cemetery and Lane County Veterans Services are teaming up to present a seminar we call “Easing the Way.” This seminar for Veterans, their families, friends and caregivers will include crucial information about:

• Advance care planning – documenting decisions about health care you would or would not want to receive, if you were unable to make or communicate decisions on your own.
• Health care options when you near the end of life.
• Funeral, memorial and burial ceremonies and how to coordinate key details.
• Who can be laid to rest in VA National Cemeteries.
• Reserving a resting place and scheduling interment.
• Burial benefits for Veterans who choose burial outside of a VA cemetery.
• Financial benefits that surviving family members might be eligible to receive.

The panelists will present the seminar online using the WebEx Events system. Attendees will be able to join the event using their web browser software. They will not have to install software on their computers or mobile devices. A meeting host will be online 30 minutes before the scheduled start time to help attendees with any technical challenges they may face.

Participants should register in advance. Once registered, participants will receive an email that should include a link where they can download the handouts for the seminar.
