In his well-known short story “The Things They Carried,” American author Tim O’Brien gives a detailed inventory of the things both tangible and intangible his compatriots brought with them to the battlefield of the Vietnam War. In French playwright Gérald Sibleyras’ “Le Vent Des Peupliers,” the things soldiers take with them after war are depicted through the conversations and plotting of three French veterans in a retirement home.
