ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg nonprofit is making sure local veterans get out and enjoy the outdoors next year, in an effort to help improve their mental health.

Source One Serenity focuses on veteran empowerment by coordinating recreational group outings.

However, staff said they received a $42,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Veteran Affairs to take their program to the next level.

They’re planning walking, hiking and fly-fishing trips, and they said the grant will pay for transportation, fishing licenses and mental health support if needed.
