LA GRANDE: The Veterans housing project gets approval

Loading

The City of La Grande has approved the project to build affordable housing for veterans. Gus Tsiatsos gave us an update on what to expect in the coming months.
“We are planning on beginning with three homes, likely continue at a steady pace, and hoping to be completed in 18 months or so. The Veterans indicated they have a need today of what we will be building. We expect no problem with occupancy right of the bat.”
Since veterans will be applying for financial assistance the rent will be around $600 or less. The property that is located on Russell Avenue will include 10 tiny houses, 480 square feet, and at least one community facility. Several Veterans in Union County have a hard time finding affordable housing. Byron Whipple the Union County Veteran Service Officer, Gus Tsiatsos developer with GCT land management, got their heads together on an idea to bring affordable housing to veterans.
