ONTARIO — On Oct. 18, U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden, and Jeff Merkley, both Oregon Democrats, sent out a press release urging the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to “find solutions to the high veteran suicide rate” in the western United States.
The release cites a lack of doctors in remote areas, increased isolation and limited access to mental health care as primary factors for a suicide rate of 7 percent in 2014.
