U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden presented a long-overdue Purple Heart to the grandniece of an Army veteran who died in World War II 75 years ago.

Wyden did so in a short ceremony Sunday (Jan. 15) preceding a town hall meeting attended by 200 people at the Hillsboro Civic Center.

Roxanne Teeter of Hillsboro accepted on behalf of her great uncle, Private First Class Harry D. LaChance of the Quartermaster Corps. He died in the Philippines at age 23 on May 7, 1942, the day after overwhelmed U.S. forces surrendered to Japan in the Battle of Corregidor.
