Truffle Shuffle helps St. Vincent de Paul provide housing for local veterans

EUGENE, Ore. – St. Vincent de Paul has more to offer local veterans thanks to runners at Alton Baker Park Sunday.

The 36th annual Truffle Shuffle is split into 2-mile and 4-mile races. This year, all the proceeds from the run and walk benefitted several St. Vincent de Paul veterans’ programs.

One Army veteran, Robert Wilson, said he was chronically homeless for 20 years before someone told him about the St. Vincent de Paul programs. At first, he didn’t think he qualified for their benefits.

But, St. Vincent de Paul found Wilson and his pet permanent housing and they now live in an apartment.

Wilson said when he thinks of St. Vincent de Paul, he’s overwhelmed with emotion.
