Department of Labor awards program honors employers who hire and retain Veterans

Loading

The Department of Labor (DoL) is currently accepting applications for the beta phase of the HIRE Vets Medallion Program to recognize employers who hire and retain Veterans as employees.

The program stems from the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing (HIRE) American Military Veterans Act of 2017, which directs the department  to “annually solicit and accept voluntary information from employers for consideration of employers to receive a HIRE Vets Medallion Award.”

This year’s awards, specifically titled The HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration, will be used to finalize the permanent awards program beginning in 2019. According to the DoL, this inaugural round of awards will demonstrate the potential of the program to raise awareness of the HIRE Vets Medallion Program and enable more employers to garner recognition when the Program launches in 2019.

Employers wishing to be recognized can apply directly at www.hirevets.gov and fill out an electronic application. The application period opened Feb. 2 and will close April 30, 2018, or after the first 300 applications are received.

By law, the Department of Labor’s VETS’ mission is to prepare America’s Veterans, service members and their spouses for rewarding careers, provide them with employment resources and expertise, protect their employment rights, and promote their employment opportunities.
