The sound of trumpets and firearms discharging will greet the celebration of Memorial Day at seven cemeteries throughout Wallowa County Monday, May 29.

• Eagle Cap VFW Post 4370 will conduct brief services at four cemeteries that will include prayers, a short speech, the playing of taps and a 21-gun salute at 9 a.m. at Bramlett Cemetery on Bramlett Lane northwest of Wallowa off Promise Road; 10 a.m. at Wallowa Cemetery on Whiskey Creek Road; 11 a.m. at Lostine Cemetery off Jimtown on Clark Lane; noon at the Enterprise Cemetery on N.E. Alder Street in Enterprise; and 1 p.m. at the memorial fountain on the courthouse grounds in Enterprise.

The service at the courthouse will include the reading of names of veterans, auxiliary members, law enforcement and firefighters who have passed away in the preceding years.

• The American Legion will conduct memorial events at three other cemeteries beginning at 10 a.m. at Alder Slope Cemetery on 64310 Alder Slope Road; 11 a.m. at Hurricane Creek Cemetery on Hurricane Creek Road near the Joseph airport; and Joseph Prairie Creek Cemetery on 62052 Prairie Creek Road at noon.

Kim Hutchison of the Eagle Cap VFW Post 4370 is also asking anyone who notices that their serviceman’s grave does not have a flag to contact him.

“I got with Bollman Funeral Home of Enterprise and most of the cemetery boards and am trying to account for all the veterans buried in the county,” Hutchison said. “Every time I look,
